Private Access to DoxyPEP at Berts Apothecary

Post-Exposure Protection Against STIs

At Berts Apothecary, we offer discreet, evidence-based sexual health support—including access to DoxyPEP, a post-exposure prophylaxis strategy using doxycycline to reduce the risk of certain bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Our DoxyPEP solutions include

Who Might Benefit?

DoxyPEP may be suitable for:

  • Individuals with a recent history of bacterial STIs
  • Those engaging in condomless sex with multiple partners
  • People in communities with higher STI prevalence, including gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, and transgender women

A clinical assessment is required before prescribing, and it is not currently available on the NHS.

Testing and Safety

Before starting DoxyPEP, we offer:

  • Sexual health screening
  • Biochemical testing (optional liver and kidney function tests)
  • Clinical review to assess suitability and minimise risk of side effects

All laboratory testing is processed through UKAS-accredited facilities at the University Hospital of Wales, ensuring high standards of accuracy, safety, and confidentiality.

Responsible Use

While DoxyPEP is generally well tolerated, it should be used responsibly:

  • Not effective against viral STIs (e.g. HIV, herpes – please discuss HIV PREP with a healthcare provider)
  • Should not be taken more than once every 24 hours
  • Long-term use may contribute to antibiotic resistance—clinical monitoring is essential

We provide guidance on safe use, potential side effects, and how DoxyPEP fits into your overall sexual health plan.
